New Chase Branch Opening at Union Market with Disability Inclusion Focus

This marks Chase’s second branch in the country specifically designed to serve Deaf and hard of hearing customers

WASHINGTON D.C., September 19, 2024 – As part of its commitment to serve the financial needs of the Greater Washington, D.C. region and as the bank of choice for people with disabilities, today, Chase is opening its second branch with a unique focus on disability inclusion. The branch, located at 550 Morse St. NE, will be staffed by employees fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), and located just outside of Gallaudet University, the global leader in education for Deaf & hard of hearing students.

This is Chase’s 22nd branch in D.C. and the continuation of the bank’s commitment to serve customers with hearing loss through trained employees and on-site interpreters as well as tools like on-demand video interpretation services and Bluetooth technology allowing employees to speak directly with customers.

In 2019, Chase opened its branch at 501 H St. NE, with guidance from Gallaudet University, which introduced new technology to support and enhance the banking experience for Deaf and hard of hearing customers. Every Chase branch now offers on-demand video interpretation services to ensure all customers can access banking products and services.

“Ensuring everyone, no matter their background, has access to financial tools and services is key to building healthy, prosperous communities,” said Tim Berry, Global Head of Corporate Responsibility and Chairman of the Mid-Atlantic Region, JPMorganChase. “This branch demonstrates the firm’s commitment to leveraging its resources and expertise to be the bank for all and make financial services accessible to more Americans, including Washingtonians and those all across the broader Mid-Atlantic region.”

JPMorganChase invests in Disability Advocacy organizations around the country including the National Association of the Deaf, National Disability Institute and Easterseals – among others – to help expand career, education and economic opportunities for people with disabilities. The firm’s Office of Disability Inclusion leads strategy and initiatives aimed at advancing employee careers while helping the firm aspire to be the bank of choice for people with disabilities.

“While our world isn’t built with everyone in mind, the Union Market branch represents the best of disability inclusion and equity,” said Bryan Gill, Global Head of JPMorganChase’s Office of Disability Inclusion. “When we create equitable access everyone benefits – our employees, customers and local businesses  – which directly impacts the vitality of our communities.”

This branch is part of a February 2024 announcement Chase made to continue its Greater Washington D.C. branch expansion with the addition of 50 new branches and the hiring of about 500 employees by 2027. Since 2018, Chase has opened 114 branches throughout the Greater Washington region, including 23 in the District.

“As we continue to expand across the region, we are committed to uplifting communities and increasing access for people to navigate their banking needs, big or small,” said Alfonso Guzman, head of the Consumer Bank for Chase across Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. “Building on the success of our nearby H Street branch, we look forward to meeting more of our customers where they are and serving them during life’s most important financial moments.”
